In this three day trip, you will join the locals at two ethnic minority markets in the eastern mountainous region of Lao Cai Province and take a full day trekking to enjoy beautiful landscapes, meeting Flower H’mong, Tay and Phu La ethnic minority peoples, witnessing their every day activities and experiencing their hospitality.   
Night 1 (Saturday Night) Take the overnight train from Hanoi to Lao Cai
Please, be ready at your hotel lobby at 20.00 for a short transfer to Hanoi railways station for taking the overnight train (first class 4 beds cabin with air-condition) which arrive in Lao Cai city, near the Chinese border next morning.  

Day 1 (Sunday) Lao Cai // Bac Ha
Early arrival in Lao Cai, on the Chinese border, you will meet your local guide and driver as soon as you check out the station, freshen up and Breakfast before taking 2 hour drive through scenic countryside and then uphill to Bac Ha town at the elevation about 800m above sea level. Check in your hotel, take a quick shower and heading to the market place which is at its best time, crowded with tribal people includes H’mong, Zao, Tay and Phu La. At the market, the Flower H’mong is majority in number and the most eyed catching due to their colorful embroidered costumes. After hours wandering around the market, being excited with the festive atmosphere, taking hundreds of pictures, you may wish to slow down and drop in one the finest restaurant to sample local dishes, taste some corn wine.
The market ends in the afternoon and you will follow locals along the way back to Pho Village of the Tay and Flower H’mong, located in a fantastic valley for a discovery of the village.

Day 2 (Monday) Trekking to villages around Bac Ha    
Bac Ha is not only well-known for its Sunday Market but also famous for stunning scenery of the surrounding area and the diversity in culture of the ethnic minority inhabitants. We had designed some walking trips, different in length and grade for exploring tribal villages and depending on your fitness and liking you may choose the right one for you with your guide’s help.
Depart from hotel on foot, you will follow walking path which forms a loop, uphill and down valleys, passing through terraced rice paddies, corn fields, pine forest and many plump gardens…to pay visiting to Tay, Flower H’mong and Phu La ethnic villages. Arriving back to the hotel in the afternoon and the rest of the day is set at your leisure.

Day 3 (Tuesday) Coc Ly Market // Lao Cai and overnight train to Hanoi.    
Coc Ly market is a rural market on every Tuesday. About 55 km away from Bac Ha town, the market place lies on the bank of the Chay River, surrounded by steep mountains which are covered with fabulous forest. Attending the market, minority peoples such as H’mong, Zao, Tay, Nung… from remote villages have to wake up very early, walking up and down hills for hours.
Leaving Bac Ha for an hour drive along the main road for an hour, and then turn right to a tough road for 18 km, passing some narrow canyons, mountain passes…stunning scenery! Arriving at the market at its most crowded time, you will join the locals for your one experience until noon. After a simple Lunch, you will board a sampan following the Chay River downstream to explore this off the beaten track region for a discovery of wild nature and minority way of life.
Meet our car again near Trung Do village of the Tay in late afternoon and transfer to Lao Cai station for the overnight train back. Trip ends the next morning on Wednesday when the train arrives early in Hanoi at about 6:00 am.

Can Cau Market on Saturday and Bac Ha Market on Sunday have formed a kind of week end festival of local ethnic peoples in Bac Ha District. There are peoples from some other tribal groups such as Black Zao, Tay, Zay to attend, but the colorful traditional costume of the Flower H’mong dominates these two markets. Combining the market activities with visiting to some tribal villages set amongst beautiful nature for new culture discovery the trip is really memorable and yields good chance for photo hunters.

Night 1 (Friday Night) Take the overnight train from Hanoi to Lao Cai
Please, be ready at your hotel lobby at 20.00 for a short transfer to Hanoi railways station for taking the overnight train (first class 4 beds cabin with air-condition) which arrive in Lao Cai city, near the Chinese border next morning.  

Day 1 (Saturday) Lao Cai // Can Cau Market
Meet your local guide and driver at Lao Cai Station upon your arrival at about 06.00, freshen up and enjoy Breakfast in a local restaurant before taking a drive up hill to Can Cau Market Place. The journey takes about 2.5 hours through the lush farmland of Lao Cai plateau and later spectacular mountain scenery of Bac Ha District. Arriving right at its most crowded time, the market is filled with cheerful faces and you will be absorbed into the market by festive atmosphere, colorful traditional dresses, exotic smell of corn wine and herb… until noon when it gets over to realize the beautiful surrounding. Driving back to Bac Ha town, you will check in hotel and enjoy lunch.
After along break for your recovery, the afternoon excursion will take you to visit Ban Pho Commune of the Flower H’mong and Tay people which is included some small hamlets scattering on hilly land in a perfect nature setting. Walking around the village you will encounter the hospitable ethnic people, living in wooden houses with earthen wall surrounding by lush plump garden… There is a chance to see how corn wine made and if lucky you will enjoy a H’mong dance with the Khen.

Day 2 (Sunday) Bac Ha Market // Trung Do Village // Overnight train to Hanoi 
Every day always begins very early in Vietnam. Especially on Sunday in Bac Ha. You will be waken up early by the sound of the peoples on the way to Bac Ha market. While having Breakfast you will see lot of Flower H’mong with their horses loading with selling’s passing by the hotel. So today morning is for joining in Bac Ha Market for the most important week end activities of the local ethnic peoples. You’d better with your camera walk an hour away from the market place for the active scenery while all the paths towards the market are full of peoples, children and horses…
Back to the market at about 09.30 you will enjoy the market at its best. Lunch will be served in the hotel restaurant with set menu before checking out hotel and leaving Bac Ha. The journey down hill is very different from the way up and you will enjoy some photo stops before paying visit to Trung Do, a Tay Village impressively nested by the side of the Chay River with hundred of spacious wooden houses which are well organized in the harmony with surrounding nature. Also from here you will enjoy a boat trip along the Chay River for magnificent landscapes of this untouched region.
Getting to Lao Cai Station in late afternoon, you will enjoy dinner on your own in local restaurant before boarding the night train for Hanoi which arrives early next morning at about 6:00 am on Monday and the trip ends.

Upon arrival to Lao Cai station early morning, you will meet your local tour guide and driver and enjoy breakfast in a restaurant nearby. Freshen up and heading along the road to Muong Khuong district which weaves its way up and down hills of the tea plantation and pine trees. It gets wilder and greener with thick forest and small tribal villages scattering isolated on slopes of the mountains as you get close to Cao Son Commune. You will enjoy much of the scenery which is marvelous and changes very fast after every bend. Arriving in Cao Son almost at noon, checking in the Lodge where you will stay overnight, take a rest or wandering around breathing fresh air.
Afternoon is for walking to explore tribal villages nearby for a discovery of tribal culture, custom and self subsidiary way of life of different ethnic minorities.

Day 2 (Tuesday) Cao Son // Coc Ly Market // Overnight train to Hanoi    
Coc Ly market is a tribal market on every Tuesday. About 50 km away from Bac Ha town, the market place lies on the bank of the Chay River, surrounded by steep mountains covered with lush forest. Going to the market, minority people such as H;mong, Zao, Tay, Nung… from remote villages have to wake up very early and walk up and down hills for hours.
Leaving Cao Son after Breakfast and drive along local road for nearly 2 hours, enjoying fabulous scenery, you will arrive at the Coc Ly market right at the most crowded time of the market. Spending few hours joining the locals, fancying cheerful atmosphere and studying the differences between people from many ethnic groups through colorful traditional costumes. It is an unique experience for sure!
The market over at noon when you board a wooden sampan for spectacular landscapes and exploring villages of the Zao and Tay on the two banks of the river. The boat trip ends in the afternoon at a Tay village in Bao Nhai, where our car waiting to pick you up for an hour drive to Lao Cai Station. Here you have few hours for taking a shower and Dinner before boarding the night train to Hanoi. Trip ends when arrives in Hanoi early next morning on Wednesday at about 6:00 am.

Day 1 (Sunday) Lao Cai // Muong Hum Market // Sapa
Early arrival in Lao Cai, at the Chinese border, you will meet your local guide and driver as soon as you check out the station, freshen up and Breakfast before taking an hour drive through scenic countryside to Muong Hum. Arriving at the market at about 09.00Am, joining the locals for the market activities. It is here at this market place where you can see and meet the most diversity of ethnic minority peoples living in Lao Cai Province: The four H’mong sub groups: Black, Flower, Red and Blue; Red Zao, Black Zao, Zao Tuyen; Ha Nhi; Zay; Nung…You will realize easily women from many different groups by watching at traditional costumes they wear. The Zay wear black trousers, pink or blue blouse or shirt with a woolen headscarf, the Flower H’mong and Red H’mong wear colorful skirts which decorated with thick red and yellow embroidery on the batik patterns, silver ear rings and necklaces while the Black H’mong choose the simple indigo color with light decorative embroidery…
Time has passed away fast and the market coming to an end. Let’s sit down on a large and flat rock by the river to relax and enjoy picnic lunch before taking the road ride to Sapa. You’ll enjoy some stops for sightseeing along the way. Check in your hotel upon arrival in Sapa and time is set free at your leisure.

Day 2 (Monday) Tribal village exploration in Ma Tra and Ta Phin Valley
Lying on the south of Sapa town, this vast valley composes of 3 chambers surrounded by high mountains with thick forest at the top and terraced rice paddies from lower slopes stretching to the bottom. It is home to the Black H’mong and the Red Zao ethnic minority who live in wooden houses scattering here and there.
Starting from Sapa with your guide, you will follow a trail running through fruit and orchard gardens, lush pine forests to a Black Hmong ethnic minority village named Matra, isolated away from the civilization. Chickens, water buffalos, pot – belly pigs and piggy everywhere, some locals will be happy to invite us to their home which offers chances to see their dwellings, weavings on belly looms to makes traditional costumes out of hemp fiber…Our path weaves itself up and down hills, through valleys with terraced rice fields which create spectacular landscapes. After picnic Lunch, we get to Taphin Commune where the Black H’mong and the Red Zao live together. It is very interesting to realize culture assimilation: Which can be mixed, which can not! At the end of the footpath, our Jeep is waiting for us for the return journey to Sapa.

Day 3 (Tuesday) Explore Muong Hoa Valley // Night train to Hanoi
Today you will spend the whole day exploring the spectacular Muong Hoa Valley. Two high ranges of mountains run in parallel north to southwest of Sapa town had created a narrow and long valley, which is the most famous valley in the region for its breathtaking scenery and is home to the major part of Sa Pa’s ethnic population including the H’mong, Zao, Zay, Tay and Xa Pho.
A Jeep will take us out of the town, following the only road built on the side of a mountain range, looking down the valley, over viewing magnificent landscapes composed of high mountains, deep valleys, and stream of water winding, waterfalls and terraced rice paddies… leaving the main road for some short trek, you will visit tribal villages such as Ta Van of the Zay, Su Pan of the Black H’mong, Ban Ho of the Tay…enjoy meeting and contacting locals at home and at works.
We leave Ban Ho of the Tay people in late afternoon, drive back to Sapa. After a short rest for shower, we then transfer down hill to Lao Cai station for overnight train back. Trip ends when arrives in Hanoi early next morning on Wednesday morning at 6:00 am.

Then you will travel along national road 4D about an hour via rich farmland with lush fruit gardens and tea farms, turn left to a tough road for 18 km, passing some canyons, mountain passes and villages to Coc Ly. With your camera in hands you will spend few hours joining the locals at the market for your own experience until noon. After simple Lunch, you will board a sampan and follow the Chay River downstream for a discovery of wild nature and minority life style in this “off the beaten” track region. Day 3 (Thursday) Visit Lao Chai & Ta Van village // Overnight train to Hanoi     Today morning, you will explore the spectacular Muong Hoa. A Jeep will take us out of the town, following the only road built on the side of a mountain range, looking down the valley, over viewing magnificent landscapes composed of high mountains, deep valleys, and stream of water winding, waterfalls and terraced rice paddies…walking trail can be seen clearly from the road winding up and down hills on the other side of Muong Hoa River to connect village to villages…
Our suggested walk starts from Lao Chai village of the H’mong along the river to Ta Van, the Zay village. Our Jeep will pick us up at Ta Van Bridge and drive back to Sapa at noon.
Afternoon is at your leisure for wandering Sa Pa town and market until late afternoon when transfer down hill to Lao Cai station for taking the overnight train back. Trip ends when arrives in Hanoi early next morning on Friday at about 6:00 am.

Day 1 (Sunday) Muong Khuong Market // Sapa Town
Meeting your Sapa guide and driver upon your arrival to Lao Cai Station early in the morning, freshen up and Breakfast before transferring 55km to Muong Khuong. The road was recently upgraded to ensure smooth drive and enjoy beautiful scenery of the lush mountainous region along the way with some stops for nature wanders and photos. Arriving to the market place you will spend the whole morning joining the local tribal peoples of different groups coming from remote villages to attend the market for their most important week end activities. Shopping? Of course. You can see a variety of things for sales from farming products, medicinal herbs, spices to Chinese made electronic appliances… but is not as important as meeting, contacting, socializing and enjoying food! It is easy to realize the H’mong and Zao through their colorful dresses and head gears who are the massive at the market. The Ha Nhi, Tu Zi, Tu Lao peoples in smaller numbers and wear unique traditional costumes which are not so colorful but beautiful.
You will sit down for a simple Lunch while the market is getting over. The trip back to Lao Cai is more interesting for having lot chances for personal contacts with locals on the way back to their villages. Then the road goes uphill to Sapa offers spectacular view of mountain and valleys to make the drive shorter. Arriving in Sapa in middle afternoon, check in hotel and enjoying a leisure walk around this charming town.

Night 1 (Thursday Night) Take the overnight train from Hanoi to Lao Cai

Day 1 (Friday) Sapa Town’s Highlights // Ta Phin Village
Meet your Sapa guide and driver upon your arrival to Lao Cai Station and transfer uphill the Hoang Lien Son mountains to Sapa with some stop for over viewing of stunning valleys and terraced rice fields along the way.
After Breakfast your guide will show you around for a brief introduction of this charming town. At the market, ethnic minority people of different groups wearing their traditional costumes made by themselves comes every day selling local products includes vegetable, bamboo shoot, mushroom, medicinal herbs and souvenirs…there are chances to get intact and taking photos. Later you will follow the footsteps uphill to the top of Ham Rong Mountain for over viewing beautiful scenery of the town and surrounding area, paying visit to an orchard garden and a mini museum which tells you a lot about ethnic minority people living in Sa Pa and the northwest region.
After Lunch, transfer 14km to the center of Ta Phin valley, then you will enjoy an easy walk following village path, paying visit to some H’mong hamlets scattering from the bottom of the valley to higher mountain slopes. From high elevation, great view of the valley stretching under your foot. Continue your walk to the Red Zao village in which you will meet groups of women making handicrafts includes embroidered clothes, handbags… Transfer back to Sa Pa in late afternoon and the rest hours is at your leisure.

Day 2 (Saturday) Tribal Village Exploration in Muong Hoa Valley      
Today you will spend the whole day exploring the spectacular Muong Hoa. A Jeep will take us out of the town, following the only road built on the side of a mountain range, looking down the valley, over viewing magnificent landscapes composed of high mountains, deep valleys, and stream of water winding, waterfalls and terraced rice paddies…Many time, leaving the main road, you will visit tribal villages such as Ta Van of the Zay, Su Pan of the Black H’mong, Ban Ho of the Tay…there are chances for meeting and contacting locals at home and at works. We leave Ban Ho in late afternoon for a drive back to Sapa. Evening is at your leisure.

Day 3 (Sunday) Full day joining the famous Bac Ha Market // Overnight train to Hanoi      
Every day always begins very early in Vietnam. Especially on Sunday in Bac Ha. You will be waken up, having Breakfast and check out your hotel early before seven.
Leaving Sapa at 07.00 for a transfer 3 hours down hill to Lao Cai and later uphill to Bac Ha. As you get close to The market, you will see lot of Flower H’mong with their horses loading with selling’s along the way. Arriving at the most crowded time of the market you will join some thousands local tribal peoples such as Flower H’mong, Tay, Zao and Phu La who are in their colorful traditional dresses shoping, talking, enjoying food…The most colorful part is clothes section while the most interesting ones probably the food stalls and animal market. Be noted that the small animals such as chicken, piggy… are sold in narrow ground at the main market place but buffaloes, horses market lies about 3 hundred meters away near the main motor way.
Some hours getting excited with the market activities and festive atmosphere, Lunch will be served in a local restaurant with set menu and you may try H’mong home made corn wine.
Afternoon will be highlighted with a short walk around Ban Pho Village of the Flower H’mong and Tay peoples which includes some small hamlets set amongst lush plump gardens, terraced paddies and mountain back drops for a local breath.
Leaving Bac Ha at about 16.00 and getting to Lao Cai Station at 18.00, you will have a quick shower and enjoy dinner on your own in local restaurant before boarding the night train for Hanoi which arrives early next morning on Monday at about 6:00 am and the trip ends.

Today is the market day in Cao Son and you will spend the whole morning to take part in this weekly event. The village seems to wake up after a week staying peacefully. People from different tribal groups such as H’mong, Zao, Nung, Pa Di, Tu Di…wearing their traditional costumes converge to the market place on foot, motorcycles and horses. Many comes from remote villages, near the border and have to start their journey even from midnight. Joining the market, you will soon get the feeling of local, cheerful faces every where. Commodities for sale at the market is rich, from home produces such as fruit, vegetable, chili, ginger, smelled medicinal herbs, mushroom, bamboo shoot, corn wine, local handicraft, animals includes pigs, chicken, dogs, cats... to farming tools as hoes, plough shares, spades, knives…
You are leaving the market and Cao Son after Lunch for a drive to Lao Cai and then uphill to Sapa through a scenic region. Meet your local guide and driver at Lao Cai Station upon your arrival, freshen up and enjoy Breakfast before heading north overland 55km to Muong Khuong and turn right for 25km along the Chinese border line to Pha Long Market. This very rural market is not very famous among tourists because of poor transportation and special government permission but really fascinating one for its special festive atmosphere. Joining local tribal peoples you will spend some hours at the market place where all local products and farming tools as well as Chinese cheap consumer goods can be seen for sales. But more than that, you can see and even contact friendly and cheerful minority peoples of different tribal groups in their colorful traditional dresses who come from remote villages mainly for enjoying meeting others for socializing.
After the market, we shall drive back to Muong Khuong for Lunch and continue along the country road along the Chay River and later arrive in Cao Son village which nested in the green color of the mountains, forest and rice paddies. Check in the Eco Lodge and enjoy for free time to discover the beautiful surrounding nature.

Day 2 (Sunday) Exploring villages in Cao Son      
Today plan is for walking to explore tribal villages around Cao Son. From the Eco Lodge you will follow quiet village foot path up and down hill through valley and plump fruit gardens passing some villages of the Nung and later to Lung Sen a large village of the Flower H’mong which featured with spacious houses built with earthen walled. After many home visiting you will enjoy Lunch in the village. The walk continue in the afternoon for few hours passing a beautifully green valley of rice and corn fields to visit Seo Lung Cheng village before getting back to the Lodge.

Day 3 (Monday) Coc Ly // Boat trip along Chay River // Overnight train to Hanoi      
After breakfast, you will leave the Cao Son Lodge for a drive along a tough country road to Coc Ly during which enjoying visit to some small villages of the black Zao beautifully set on the west bank of the Chay River. Boarding a boat in Coc Ly at noon you will cruise down stream to explore local life in villages along the Chay River. At Trung Do Village you will spend an hour to visit this well organized Village of the Tay peoples with almost nearly a hundred houses built on stilt in a traditional style. The boat trip ends in Bao Nhai where the car and driver waiting for us for a drive to Lao Cai station with some stops along the way for seeing tea plantations. Getting to Lao Cai Station at about 17.00, taking shower and dinner on your own before boarding the overnight train to Hanoi. Arrive at about 6:00 am on Tuesday morning.
